About Arthritis

Arthritis is one of the leading causes of disability in the world. It is increasingly evident in developing nations, where a rural lifestyle and high levels of manual labor place excessive stress on joints. While there are more than 100 types of arthritis, the most common form is osteoarthritis (OA), also called osteoarthroses or degenerative joint disease. A is a chronic condition characterized by the breakdown of the joint’s cartilage. The breakdown of cartilage causes the bones to rub against each other, causing stiffness, pain and loss of movement in the joint. The chronic daily pain has a crippling effect on the body-- even the most basic everyday activities such as walking or getting in and out of a chair are difficult. According to the CDC, arthritis affects more women than men at every age. Women also often experience it with greater severity.
